In the words of the endowment agreement, “The chair is to be dedicated to the integration of the Wesleyan-Arminian traditions within the various educational programs of the University.”

The agreement further stipulated that  “the occupant of the chair shall be a distinguished 和 productive scholar who embodies the Wesleyan heritage of the University …. The occupant will be expected to publish articles 和 books, present professional papers, occasionally deliver all-campus lectures, 和 serve the University 和 the Free Methodist Church as a Wesleyan spokesperson in regional, 国家, 和 inter国家 forums.”
